FAQs

What is a dog treadmill?

A dog treadmill, or slat mill, is a specially designed machine built to safely accommodate dogs of all sizes. It’s not just a human treadmill—it’s wider, quieter, and built with safety features to keep your pup comfortable and confident. It is self powered so your pup can go at their own pace.

Is treadmill exercise safe for my dog?

Yes! Each session is guided and supervised. We start slow, allowing your dog to get comfortable before gradually increasing speed and time. Sessions are always tailored to your dog’s health, age, and fitness level.

What are the benefits of slatmill exercise for dogs?

Slatmill exercise provides both physical and mental benefits. It helps burn excess energy, provides mental enrichment, and can reduce unwanted behaviors caused by boredom, anxiety, or lack of exercise. It’s especially beneficial for high-energy, anxious, or reactive dogs, as well as intact dogs or those who aren’t a good fit for traditional daycare settings.

Physically, slatmill sessions support healthy weight loss, improve cardiovascular fitness, build lean muscle, and enhance overall conditioning. Customized workouts can also help senior dogs maintain mobility, strength, and quality of life. Every session is tailored to your dog’s individual fitness level, goals, and needs.

How is this different from a walk?

Walks are wonderful, but they often aren’t enough for dogs with higher energy needs. Treadmill exercise offers a consistent, controlled workout without distractions, bad weather, or traffic. It also burns more energy in less time—making it an excellent supplement to regular walks.

How long are the sessions?

Sessions typically last 20–30 minutes, depending on your dog’s stamina and comfort level. Every workout is customized—some dogs build up endurance quickly, while others benefit from shorter, slower sessions.

Do I need to be there?

You’re welcome to stay and watch, but it’s not required. Many pet parents love checking in on their pup’s progress, while others take the time to catch up on their own to-do list.

What if my dog has never been on a treadmill?

No problem! Most dogs take to it quickly with encouragement and guidance. We always introduce the treadmill at your dog’s pace, building trust and confidence step by step.

Can senior dogs or dogs in recovery use the slat mill?

Yes—treadmill workouts can be a gentle, low-impact option for older dogs or pups recovering from injury (with your vet’s approval). We keep the speed slow and steady to provide safe movement without overexertion.

Do you work with reactive dogs?

Yes. We welcome reactive dogs and understand that traditional daycare, dog parks, and group exercise environments aren’t the right fit for every dog. Our one-on-one slatmill sessions provide a safe, controlled setting where reactive dogs can exercise, build confidence, and burn energy without the stress of interacting with other dogs or unfamiliar people.

How often should my dog use the treadmill?

Every dog is different, but many benefit from 1–2 sessions per week in addition to their regular walks or playtime. We’ll help you find the routine that best supports your pup’s health and happiness.

Will slat mill exercise replace my dog’s walks?

Not at all! Dogs still love sniffing, exploring, and socializing outside. Treadmill workouts are meant to supplement walks, not replace them—providing that extra energy burn and structured activity your pup needs.

What should I bring to my dog’s session?

Just your dog, their favorite harness or collar, and maybe a few treats! We provide everything else needed for a safe and fun workout.
